Proforma invoice: meaning, format and free maker
Send a proforma invoice to ask for an advance or confirm an order before delivery, then convert it into the final tax invoice with one click.

What is a proforma invoice?
A proforma invoice is a preliminary bill sent before goods or services are delivered. It shows the customer what they will be charged, so they can arrange payment, approvals or import paperwork. It is not a tax invoice, so it does not create a GST liability or input tax credit.
Proforma vs quotation vs tax invoice
- Quotation: a price offer that the customer may accept.
- Proforma invoice: a confirmed order in invoice form, often used to collect an advance.
- Tax invoice: the final bill for a completed supply, with GST charged.

Frequently asked questions

No. Input tax credit is claimed on the tax invoice, not on a proforma.
Is a proforma invoice legally binding?
It records the agreed terms, but the tax invoice is the document of the sale.
